If this is your first contact with our congregation, you probably have a few questions about our beliefs and practices. Our goal is to act solely on the authority of God’s word.
Our Authority Is The Bible Alone
Our source of authority is that which is found only in the Bible, which is God’s inspired Scripture. Therefore, we seek to be governed in all that we do by God’s Holy Word. Since the Scriptures are sufficient for our every need (2 Timothy 3:16-17), we preach and teach the Bible.
We Are Christians Only
The division in the religious world today is far different from the unity enjoyed by the early Christians. We have no denominational organization, but simply follow the teachings of Christ and his apostles, collectively we are the church of Christ, individually we are known only as Christians.
Salvation
We believe that eternal salvation is the result of God’s grace which is obtained by faith (Ephesians 2:8). Faith that moves God to bestow His grace is a faith which is evidenced by action (James 2:14-26). This kind of faith moves one to have a heart that yields to God’s wishes. Such an attitude results in actions that are obedient to God’s commandments. God requires faith (Hebrews 11:6) and repentance (Acts 17:30). He requires those seeking salvation to be willing to acknowledge Jesus (Matthew 10:32-33) and be immersed in water (baptism), at which time he takes away our sins (Acts 2:38, 22:16).
Worship
We worship God through prayer, partaking of a memorial of Jesus (Lord’s Supper), singing, teaching, and giving. The Scott County Church of Christ’s worship is led by faithful men of our congregation whose goal is to follow the Bible as close as we can.
We are a group of God’s people who strive to fulfill the mission that He has given us. We believe in educating ourselves in the Word so that we may evangelize others while edifying ourselves through fellowship. Our guide for this is Ephesians 4:12, “equipping of the saints (education), for the work of ministry (evangelism) for the edifying of the body of Christ (edification).”
